Mrs. Kapsch Hello Families! Happy October! Something new went home this week that I wanted to fill families in about and that is the Monthly Reading Calendar! The reading calendar is a tool for students to record and keep track of their nightly reading homework. As stated in the "Everything you need to know about 3rd grade" packet that went home the first week of school students should be reading 20 minutes every school night. We discussed as a class that reading every night is their homework, so your students should never come home saying "I don't have any homework!" We also brainstormed safe places were their calendars could be kept like the refrigerator, taped to the wall in their bedroom, or in their take home folder. At the end of the month students should add up their total minutes read if you could help make sure the calculation are accurate and most importantly HONEST I would really appreciated it! I made it very clear that if you at home do not agree with the minutes recorded on their calendars you do NOT have to sign their calendars. Calendars are due back to school on the first (school day) of the next month. I look forward to celebrating their hard work with them! Here is a peak at our week: Language Arts- Meeting our guided reading groups. Ask your student who they will be reading with. Book groups will be voting on a book to read as a group. Writing- Practicing revising and editing our writing. Math- Subtraction Strategies Science- What survival strategies do baby animals have that allow them to grow into healthy adults? Coming UP! --Conferences are coming up! If you are unsure of your conference time feel free to send me an email. I look forward to meeting with all of you! --Scholastic Book Fair is next week: Students will all be able to visit the book fair on our scheduled Media day. If you would like to send them to school with money please discuss financial responsibility tips. It's hard to make $10 appear when a sad student comes up to me bummed they lost it. Have a great week! Mrs. Kapsch Happy Fall Everyone!

With the help of some wonderful parent volunteers who built the court, students now have the option to play a new game outside that's kind of like handball, meets dodgeball. Up COMING NEWS!
One last thing, since construction continues to bring new surprises and challenges if you could email me with any changes to your child's transportation I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you all for being so flexible during this time! Have a fabulous week! Hello! My name is Emily Kapsch and I am so excited to be your teacher! This will be my fifth year teaching 3rd grade at Wilshire Park. I can't wait for a new year full of learning, exploring, and most important having FUN! I went to the University of North Dakota where I graduated with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Special Education. I love getting to know my students and watching them grow as the year goes on! I also love art and am going the the University of Minnesota to receive a masters degree in visual arts education. Any chance I have to add a creative flare to a lesson, I jump on it! I am a born and raised Minnesota girl and love all things Minnesota! Twins, Timberwolves, Wild, and Vikings Woohoo! I grew up in Mound, MN which is nestled on the western side of Lake Minnetonka. I love boating, fishing, or cruising around the lake whenever I can. What drew me into St. Anthony is the small town feeling you get that is similar to Mound, and also my husband Mike (who is a former WP Panda and Husky football player!) I love seeing people around town when I'm running errands so don't hesitate to say Hi! In my free time I love walking my dog Shelby (a miniture Schnauzer) around Silverwood Park, and supporting local NE restaurants. Now that you know a little about me, I'm excited to get to know you! If you could take a moment to complete this "Getting To Know You" form before coming to meet and greet I would greatly appreciate it!
