Happy Monday Everyone!
Can you believe that we only have 4 Mondays left in our school year? Crazy, right! This week is full of events so let me outline them for you here: Tuesday: 1 day, 2 great events! Grandparent and VIP Day! Students are welcome to bring an important person to school with them from 8:15-9:15 tomorrow morning. During this time students can give their special guest a tour of our classroom and school in addition to showing off their artwork that's decorating the halls. Also, feel free to swing by the book fair! Art Show and Ice-Cream Social come back after school for art, ice cream, and books from 6:30-7:45pm Thursday and Friday: MAP Reading Test: Similar to the MCA test our students will be taking their Spring MAP tests. We have blocked out our morning from 9:30-10:30 to take this test. As always your continued support and encouragement is greatly appreciated! Book Fair: The book fair will be going on throughout this week. Our class is scheduled to visit on Friday during their library time. But, if students would like to go before then they may. If you send your child to school with money for the book fair it helps to give them a small baggie of some sort to store their money while browsing. Read-a-Thon! Our spring Read-a-Thon kicked of TODAY! Students are encouraged to read at home and at school and record their minutes on a reading log that should be going home every night. I will collect the logs every morning and keep track of our class wide minutes read. Monetary donations are also accepted if you are wanting to do so. The Read-a-Thon will be going on for the next 2 weeks. Have fun reading! Have a nice week! Mrs. Kapsch Holy Moly! I apologize for the lack of updates, the time has been FLYING BY! Lately we have been busy learning the following...

This week we will begin creative narratives. Math: We just finished up learning how to find perimeter and are moving on to money and time. Social Studies: Today we started our new switch! Our class will be learning about government and economics with Ms. Barrett. Coming UP! Roller Skating: Over the next few weeks students will be roller skating during PE. Helmets are provided but if your child would like to bring their own from home they are more than welcome to. Field Trip to the Minneapolis Institute of Art: April 9th from 9:30-11:30- This field trip allows students to see in person the art we have been learning about during our "Art Adventure" lessons. Mrs. Kapsch Hello!
Happy Monday! It feels like a long time since we've been able to start our week on a Monday. Fingers crossed for a "normal" 5 day week! Peak at the week: Language Arts: We read The Bracelet as a class today and had a GREAT discussion! I was so impressed with the current event, and personal connections that were talked about. As well as the amount of empathy shown for others in tough situations. Writing: Exploring our opinions and writing about them. Math: Today we finished fractions. Tomorrow we will begin geometry! Social Studies: Ancient Civilizations with Mrs. Behm Have a nice week! Mrs. Kapsch Happy Monday!
This week we are taking some extra time to focus on kindness and friendship to go along with our Kindness Party on Thursday. A letter should have made it home on Thursday, but I did notice a few left on student's desks when I came to school today. Student's are welcome to handout valentines or notes of kindness to their peers at the end of the day this Thursday. This is totally optional, but if your child chooses to do this I just ask that they bring a valentine for everyone in our class. Here's a peak at our week: Language Arts: Making inferences. Writing: Biographies are due this Friday! Math: Fractions Social Studies: Ancient Civilizations with Mrs. Behm Coming UP! Monday Feb. 18th- NO SCHOOL Hello Everyone!
2019 is off to a CRAZY start! After a week off of school it's nice to see everyone eager and ready to be back at school :) Here's a look at what we are learning in the classroom: Language Arts: We will begin practicing inferencing or using the clues we read to deepen our understanding of what we are reading. Math: Fractions!!! Students were SUPER excited to hear we are starting this chapter. Writing: Still working on our Biography reports. Social Studies: We started a new switch with Mrs. Behm. Our class will be learning about Ancient Civilizations! Coming UP! - I am still collecting signed report card envelopes. This is my way of guaranteeing parents actually see their child's report card, and they don't get lost in backpacks, or hidden in bedrooms. If you have seen your child's report card but no longer have the envelope feel free to send a note to school stating you in fact saw their report card. Happy New Year!
We are back for our first full week of school! Break was a nice time to relax and enjoy the company of family and friends but all good things must come to an end. Seeing 28 smiling and excited faces enter our class made the transition back so much easier :)Check out some of our goals for the coming year! 2019 Resolutions Here's a peak at our week: Language Arts: Making connections while we read Writing: Today we started our biography research project! Everyone has chosen a person of interest to learn more about. Ask your child about who they chose tonight! A lot of this project will be done here in school, but students are also able to continue the research at home if they would like. A helpful tip when using the internet is to add "for kids" at the end of your search words. For example If I was researching Rosa Parks I might google "Rosa Park facts for kids" to ensure the content is appropriate for kids. Math: Making, Reading, and Using Graphs to answer and ask questions Science: Solar System with Ms. Eichhorn. Coming UP! -Kindergarten concert on Thursday -Last day of the quarter next week: Thursday, Jan. 17th -No School: January 18th and 21st Have a great week! Mrs. Kapsch Hello Families!

Here's a peak at our week: Language Arts: Continue to fine tune our ability to retell and summarize. Writing: Moving into informative writing. Students will begin writing how-to's. We began using google documents and typing during our free writing times and students are LOVING it! My inbox is constantly filled with with new adventures and personal stories. Math: Division....Oooo Aaaaa!!! Student's are doing GREAT tackling this difficult concept. I have been very impressed with how willing our class has been to take on the challenge. Science: Moons and Membranes with Ms. Eichhorn I also have noticed how much students are using iXL at home and I want to thank you for the continued support and encouraging academics at home :) Coming UP! December 11th- 3rd Grade Music Concert at 6PM Friendly reminder to please send your children to school with proper cold weather gear. We go outside twice a day weather permitting. Have a great week! Mrs. Kapsch Good Morning Families!
Sorry this update is coming to you later than usual, I was experiencing some technical difficulties that thankfully are back in action! Can you believe how fast the weather changed? Luckily I hear warmer days are in our future but this winter-like weather is a good reminder to please send your child to school with warm outdoor gear everyday. We try to get outside twice a day (weather permitting). Yesterday we talked as a class about being responsible for our winter gear and one way you could help out at home is by labeling EVERYTHING! Hats and gloves especially since those always seem to be the first to go missing :) Here is a peak at our week! Language Arts: We are practicing retelling what we read using transitional words like first, next, then last. Math: Still practicing multiplication. I have been VERY impressed with the amount of time students are working on their multiplication skills outside of school on iXL! Writing: Zooming in on small moments of memorable events. Practicing going deeper with personal narratives instead of wider. Science: NEW SCIENCE UNIT! Starting yesterday our class will be seeing Ms. Eichhorn (eye-corn) and learning about the moon! Coming UP! Festival of Nations: Monday, Nov. 19th This is a fun night to experience all the beautiful cultures and traditions that make up Wilshire Park NO SCHOOL- Thursday, Nov. 22nd and Friday, Nov. 23rd Have a fabulous week! Mrs. Kapsch Have you heard the news?!
Our class was lucky enough to receive a grant from the WPPA that allows us to set up each student with their very own iXL account! iXL is a wonderful program that allows students to practice concepts and skills that are aligned with MN State Math, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies and at their level. My hope is that since so many students finish their homework during the school day this program will provide practice material for things we are learning in the classroom. Each week I will try to update you at home with specific lessons your child can work on outside of school. This is my first time using this program so we are all learning together, but here are some helpful tidbits we have figured out so far.
Here are some areas to practice this week: www.ixl.com/signin Language Arts:
